Fraction to Percent Calculator Details
Fraction and percent both are used usually for comparing quantities. A fraction is a number that represents a part of the whole whereas percent is usually expressed as a fraction of 100.
The word percentage means ‘Out of hundred’. To understand the concept of percent better, let’s take an example.
Suppose in a class of 40 students, 17 are females. To simplify this data, we can say that 17/40 = 0.425 = 42.5% of the students in the class are female.
How to convert fraction to percent?
- Simplify the fraction to its lowest form by finding the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) for numerator and denominator and then dividing both numerator and denominator with GCF
- Divide the numerator by denominator
- Multiply the resultant decimal number by 100 to get a percent value
For Example, Convert fraction 45/78 into percent
- Simplify the fraction to its lowest form by dividing both numerator and denominator with GCF 3 = (45/3)/(78/3) = 15/26
- Divide the numerator by denominator: 15/26 = 0.5769230769
- Multiply the Result with 100: 0.5769230769*100 = 57.69%
